When it comes to DJ lighting packages there are a lot of
things you should consider before you delve deep into your pockets and make a
purchase. Things like:
1. What do you want from a lighting package
This is an important point actually. Do you
want a lot of separate lights that you will lug around to your DJ set in
separate boxes? Probably not right, you will more than likely want a rig of
lights that hang on one bar that are mounted on one tripod.
2. What lights do you want on the rig?
While it’s popular to go with a lighting
rig combo such as two stobe lights, 2 LED lights and 2 laser lights, this is
entirely subjective really. It comes down to what you want the ambience to be
at your gig. For example, is it a nightclub gig? Is it a ballroom dance, or is
a wedding? Each DJing scene will require a different mood from your lighting
equipment.
3. How much do you want to spend?
Again, this is quite subjective and some DJs
will like to spend upwards of five hundred dollars on their DJ package lighting. Personally
I would steer well clear of spending so much on lights. I would honestly think
that spending around the two hunrded and fifty dollar mark is plenty to invest
in your DJ lights. However, you may want to spend a little more and see how it
goes. Some people are right in that the more you spend on lights the better the
quality of what you’ll get back is. Maybe as well, you will get lights that
will last the test of time a bit more for a higher amount of money. Buy I’m not
that sold on the theory of spending more and you’ll have better lighting for
your gigs.
